This whole ‘vanishing act’ is becoming distressingly frequent.

I’m rather unhappy with the fact that I’ve completely neglected this blog for the past month or so-particularly with E3 having just recently ended. I’ve been working quite constantly, however, and thus haven’t really had the time (or the energy) to update my little corner of the interwebs as much as I should have been.

Sadly, the only comments I can make on E3 are a few passing ones, based on what several of my friends (and the odd news website) have told me. There’s a lot to cover, so I’ll likely miss a few things-I’ll be focusing mainly on the specifics of what interests me. Other information and news can be found here.

The Good:

  • There’s a new Golden Sun on the horizon, for the Nintendo DS. As a rabid fan of the series, I have to say that my excitement at the prospect  is quite palpable.
  • Left 4 Dead 2 was announced by Valve- it will include a plethora of new zombie types (both playable and unplayable- the only two we were informed of was the charger-something of a ‘mini tank’ and the HAZMAT zombie-a standard undead with an immunity to fire.). It shall also center around a new group of survivors.
  • There is a tasty new trailer on Mass Effect 2.  I can’t even describe it-just watch it yourself.
  • We know a little more about Bioshock 2.
  • A new shooter from Bungie is on the way, called Halo: Reach. I’ve mixed feelings about this, considering the backstory surrounding that place- perhaps players can take the role of the invading covenant rather than being slaughtered as the humans? Bungie has a fairly good history with their games, so I suppose I can take comfort in the fact that they likely won’t muck it up.
  • Konami is releasing a new Metal Gear Solid Title. That in itself is no surprise. What is interesting, however, is that it’s slated to be released for the Xbox 360. Hmm.  That might just spell trouble for Sony, MGS is one of their staple franchises.
  • Bethesda has announced a June 23 release date for the “Point Lookout”  DLC for Fallout 3. No word on when Mothership Zeta is coming out.  Not that I don’t like the game, but…Why not Elder Scrolls V?
  • Some of the console titles coming from Nintendo’s side of the court are looking pretty exciting- Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Mondao: beginning of the world, Sin and Punishment 2, and Line Attack Heroes. Maybe one of these games will make me use my Wii as something other than a paperweight in the near future.  Unfortunately, there are also some extremely lackluster titles as well- New Super Mario Bros 2, Wii Fit Plus, Wii Sports Resort, and Endless Ocean 2 are a few games I’d rather not have clogging the market.

The Bad:

  • Peter Molyneux was recently named the head of Microsoft Game Studios Europe. Why did I put this in ‘the bad’, you might ask? Well, for one, Fable 2 did not come anywhere remotely near what Molyneux had promised it would be. Further, the two DLC releases, although they did provide some interesting new opportunities for character customization, were colossal disappointments. 800 gamerpoints for a royal scepter and robe, and the opportunity to fight some colored shadows? No thank you. Maybe he’s just going through a rough patch. Let’s just hope he learns to cut back on the hype, or this could spell trouble for MS
  • Legend of Zelda: Spirit tracks for the Nintendo DS. ‘Nuff said. Is it too much to ask for a DS Zelda title that DOESN’T play like a torture session? I’m all for innovation, but if Spirit tracks is anything like Phantom Hourglass, count me out. Please.

That’s all I’ve got to say for now. Stay tuned:  Next post, I’ll be detailing things that gamers need to say to other gamers (similar to the recent article in XBN).
